Sacramento dropped a 108-100 contest to the Los Angeles Clippers last night as 3.5-point home underdogs, while going “over” the total for the third time in four games. The Kings will be playing the first game of a three-game road trip Friday night and looks to snap a six-game losing streak away from home. Shooting guard Marcus Thornton is certainly a player to watch offensively, averaging 21.1 points per game in his last seven games on the road. Sacramento is 5-5 ATS this season when playing on back-to-back days, with the “under” being 7-3 in that situation.
The Kings have found a point guard in rookie Isaiah Thomas, who is averaging 17.7 points over the last six games, shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 46.4 percent from beyond the arc over that span. Sacramento has managed to score 100 or more points in each of its last four games, averaging 106.5 points per game, but the defense has managed to surrender 107.8 points per game in that period. The team is 4-17 overall on the road and has managed to win just two of 14 chances against Western Conference opponents away from home.
Los Angeles had no trouble in handing the Minnesota Timberwolves a 104-85 loss in its first game after the All-Star break, going “over” the total in five of the last six games. Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant played that particular game with a protective mask due to an injury suffered in Orlando, but it didn’t stop him from scoring 31 points. He currently leads the NBA in averaging 28.5 points per game. Los Angeles is 0-2 ATS as a home favorite of 9.5 to 12 points and both of those contests with “over” the total.
The Lakers have dominated Western Conference opponents at home, posting a perfect 11-0 mark on their way to a 15-2 overall record inside the Staples Center. Los Angeles is also getting some solid play from its formidable front line, with Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol combining to score 28 points versus the Timberwolves. The franchise will also be looking to gain revenge from a 100-91 setback in the first series meeting of the 2011-12 campaign as three-point road favorites.
Bettors will likely back the Kings due to the road team being 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings in this series, while the Lakers are 8-17 ATS versus losing teams.
