Oakland put together a listless 34-14 performance against the Miami Dolphins last week as 3.5-point road underdogs, falling into a tie with the Denver Broncos in the AFC West standings. The Raiders certainly know they are up against it this week in facing the only undefeated NFL team. “They’re the team to beat,” commented Raiders head coach Hue Jackson stated. “It’s going to be a great challenge.” Quarterback Carson Palmer should be in line for a good game, facing a Packers defense that allows 292.8 yards per game though the air. Oakland is 5-1 ATS on the road this season.
The Raiders have really begun to miss star running back Darren McFadden, who will be out for a fifth consecutive game due to a foot injury, as the team gained just 46 rushing yards versus the Dolphins in Week 13. Oakland ranks 12th in the league in averaging 367.5 yards per game offensively, but the defensive side of the ball has had its troubles. The team is allowing 25.7 points per game, which is 27th in the NFL.
Green Bay returns home after back-to-back road games to host Oakland and tallied a 38-35 win over the New York Giants as seven-point road favorites. The Packers were very happy to be tested last week, especially in getting the opportunity to run their two-minute offense in a pressure situation. “We needed that as an offense,” commented Packers coach Mike McCarthy. The team can clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs with a victory Sunday. It’s the first 12-0 start for the first time in franchise history. Green Bay is 2-0 ATS versus AFC West opponents this year.
The Packers have won 10 straight contests at Lambeau Field and 16 of their last 17 at home. Green Bay is averaging 39.0 points per game at home, which is second in the league behind the New Orleans Saints (39.8). Green Bay has outscored its opponents 420-262 this season, leading the NFL in point differential. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has likely wrapped up the MVP award, completing 70.6 percent of his passes for 3,844 yards and a career-high 37 touchdowns. He has set a single-season franchise record with eight 300-yard passing games.
Bettors will likely back the Raiders due to their 5-1 ATS mark as an underdog of 10.5 or more points, while the Packers are 8-17-2 ATS as a favorite of 10.5 or more points.
