Washington is looking to snap a two-game losing streak when playing this neutral site contest inside the Rogers Centre in Toronto Sunday, coming in off a 33-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers as 1.5-point road underdogs. The Redskins come in as a battered football team, losing wide receiver Santana Moss for a couple weeks due to a left hand injury, while running back Tim Hightower is shut down for the rest of the 2011 campaign due to tearing his left ACL. It’s been a snow ball affect that has also included starting tight end Chris Cooley going down. Washington is 15-11 ATS as an underdog the last two-plus seasons.
The Redskins are going to continue with John Beck under center, as the former BYU star completed 22-of-37 passes for 279 yards with a touchdown and interception last week. Washington will need to try and establish some type of running game, facing a unit that ranks 30th in stopping the run and will be without one of its key players in nose tackle Kyle Williams. The starting running back will likely be Ryan Torain, who is averaging 4.9 yards a carry, but could go higher than that Sunday.
Buffalo is 4-2 on the year and coming off a bye week, while making news by signing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to an extension. The Bills suffered a 27-24 loss to the New York Giants as three-point road underdogs last time out, giving up at least 414 yards in five consecutive weeks. On the offensive end, running back Fred Jackson will likely play a key role in the offensive game plan, coming in with 601 yards and six touchdowns. The team is averaging 31.3 points on the season and has gone for at least 20 points in six straight games for the first time since 2006. Buffalo is 18-16 ATS over the last two-plus seasons and the total is squared up at 19-19 Over/Under.
The Bills are playing a home game in Canada for the fourth time, looking for their first win since signing a five-year, $78 million deal to play one home game in Toronto each year. “It’s not a home game,” commented Bills safety George Wilson. “The fan support here is a night-and-day difference from what we have in Buffalo.” One player that will not be in uniform is linebacker Shawne Merriman, who is out for the year with an Achilles injury. He likely won’t be missed due to coming away with nine tackles and just a single sack during the first six games.
Bettors will likely back the Redskins due to their 4-0 ATS mark as an underdog of 3.5 to 10 points, while the Bills are 2-5 ATS as a favorite in the same range.
