Wednesday February 28th brings another day of college hoops and another 3 conference tournaments getting underway. The first we will talk about is the Patriot league championship. What is unique about the Patriot League basketball tournament is that all of the games are played at the higher seeded university at not at a neutral court venue like most conference championships. For a look at all the seeds check out the Patriot League Bracket from Maddux Sports.
Those that played their best ball and earned wins during the regular season have the easiest road to the championship and theoretically the best shot at grabbing the guaranteed bid into the 2007 March madness tournament. Today’s games are as follows.
No. 8 Lafayette at No. 1 Holy Cross
No. 5 Colgate at No. 4 American
No. 7 Navy at No. 2 Bucknell
No. 6 Army at No. 3 Lehigh
The 2 favorites and best teams in the this league are Holy Cross and Bucknell. Both have spend time in the maddux sports mid major top 25 poll this season and currently Holy Cross is ranked 19 and Bucknell 26th by our experts. Holy Cross and Bucknell finished the Patriot League season with matching 13-1 records, including their only loss by each other. By virtue of a tiebreaker, Holy Cross end up as the top seed for the 2007 Patriot League Basketball Tournament.
We feel that Holy Cross is the slightly better team and would host the championship game if both made it that far. Stay tuned for an exciting tournament and championship game.
