What is so great about this time of year is that even smaller conferences like the Big South get publicity and attention from the public, and media. Tonight the Big South conference tournament gets underway with first round action. All 4 first round games will be hosted by the university that has the higher seed via the regular season standings. You can take a look at Maddux Sports’ Big South Conference tournament bracket to see the pairings.
The first round of the Big South Championship scheduled for Tuesday are listed below:
8 Seed Charleston Southern visits 1 Seed Winthrop
5 Seed UNC Asheville visits 4 Seed Coastal Carolina
7 Seed Radford visits 2 Seed High Point
6 Seed Virginia Military Institute visits 3 Seed Liberty
Some of you may have heard of some of these Big South schools, but one you should learn about and remember come tournament time is Winthop. The Eagles are one of the best mid major schools out there, and have the ability to knock off the big boys in the major conferences at anytime. This school is well coached, runs great offense, and doesn’t give up an inch on the defensive end of the floor. We would be shocked if Winthrop didn’t win the 2007 Big South championship, especially considering the fact the tournament venue moves to Winthrop Coliseum for the second round and they will host the Championship game on March 3rd if and when they make it that far. Stay tuned for more updates and updated march madness brackets from Maddux.
