The Demon Deacons ended last year losing 6 of their 7 last games, and if they hope to improve from last years 4-7 record the defense will need to improve on the 393 yards per game they allowed in 2004. The front seven is just okay and the secondary as a whole is awful. One the offensive side of the ball Wake Forest has one of the best running backs in the conference in Chris Barclay. Wakes rushing game has been solid over the past 4 seasons posting 200 yards per contest in that time which will need to continue for success in 2005. The Deacons have the most starters returning in the ACC but only 4 of which are seniors. Even though the Deacons lost 7 games last year they were competitive as six of the seven losses were by seven points or less. While this team is stronger than the 2004 squad they are still a year away from a possible bowl game invitation and should finish last in the Atlantic Division.
