Coach: Greg Schiano (5th year at Rutgers)
Team Name: Scarlet Knights
2004 Record: 4-7
2004 Big East Conference Record 1-5
2004 ATS Record: 4-6
Returning Starters: 17
Last year Rutgers had the best passing attack in the Big East (301 ypg) which was good enough for sixth best in the in the nation. The offense will still be lead by senior quarterback Ryan Hart, but Hart will need to cut down on the interceptions (38 picks last 2 years) and make better decisions in the Scarlet Knights are counting on a bowl bid. He will have plenty of targets to find as the offense is loaded with weapons including WR Tres Moses, TE Clark Harris, and RB Brian Leonard.
The Rutgers defense last season was one of the worst in the nation, ranking 104th in total offense allowed. This year head coach Greg Schiano will take on the defensive coordinator duties himself. Rutgers does have 8 starters returning on defense and the unit figures to improve overall with Schiano in full control.
Rutgers could go to a bowl game for the second time in school history, with the only other visit coming in 1978 in the Garden State Bowl, with improvement on the defensive side of the ball and if Hart can utilize the gifted options he has on offense. We will call for Rutgers to break the streak and return to a bowl game for the first time in the last 27 years.
