In each of the last 3 years the Kansas defense has improved. In 2002 the Jayhawks allowed 42 ppg, which dropped to 30 ppg in 2003, and last year dropped all the way down to 21 ppg. This season the defense should be superb and could improve once again as they return 8 starters including all Big 12 selection Nick Reid and All-America corner Charles Gordon.

While the Kansas defense is formable, the offense is a mess. Last season the Jayhawks had one of the worst rushing attacks in the country. Their leading rusher from 2004 was dismissed from the team in the offseason which won’t help the Jayhawks putrid rushing attack this season. The Jayhawks also have QB issues and haven’t named a starter just yet. The line has to replace 3 starters and figures to be another liability. It really is a shame all the offensive questions Kansas has, with even just mediocre offensive play, this team would have a shot at the North Division title.

The non conference schedule is easy and should be 3-0 heading into to conference play but the remainder of the schedule is tough. Kansas could squeak out a winning record if the offense can put points on the board and move the chains, giving the defense a rest.
