Coach: Mark Dantonio (2nd year at Cincinnati)
Team Name: Bearcats
2004 Record: 7-5
2004 Conference USA Record 5-3
2004 ATS Record: 6-6
Returning Starters: 6
This will be the first year Cincinnati is a member of the Big East. Regrettably this may have not been the best year for the Bearcats to leave Conference USA if they were hoping to make a splash against their new conference rivals. Only 6 starters return and as many as 10 true freshmen could see regular playing time.
On the offensive side of the ball the Bearcats will have to replace star QB Gino Guidugli who broke just about every passing record at Cincinnati in his tenure. In addition they lose their starting tailback and 2 top wide receivers. No quarterback has emerged as the starter and with an o-line only that only returns one starter, points may be at a premium for Cincinnati in 2005.
Just as they lost a ton on the offensive side of the ball Cincinnati loses a boatload of talent on the defensive side of the ball as well, including their 8 leading tacklers. Overall the defense is filled with youth and loaded with question marks.
Given the Bearcats experience it is hard to envision this team winning more than 2 or 3 games in its inaugural Big East Season.
