The NC State Wolfpack (3- 9 overall, 2- 6 ACC) finished sixth in the ACC Atlantic and stayed out of the bowl picture. The previous year they finished 6- 5 and went on to defeat FSU 14- 0 in the Car Care Bowl. Expect some improvement from the Pack in 2007 but not enough to get them to the post-season. New coach and former Marine Tom O'Brien needs to instill some discipline in a team that committed too many penalties and turnovers.

The offense only generated 17.5 PPG, ranking the club 101st nationally. Junior QB Daniel Evans (53% COMP, 1,843 YDs, 6 TDs, 11 INTs) had a habit of throwing interceptions. Evans is fine if he has time, but when rushed, he makes mistakes. The offensive line should be better this season and Evans' experience will also be helpful. O'Brien will focus on using his backs, including juniors Tony Baker (157 CAR, 688 YDs, 6 TDs) and Andre Brown. There's depth in the ground game. The receiving unit is extremely thin and in need of having someone step-up. TE Anthony Hill (45 REC, 478 YDs, 0 TDs) returns as the leading receiver.

New defensive coordinator Mike Archer will play to the team's strength—its linemen-- and play a 4- 3. Senior DT DeMario Pressley is the leader of the front unit, which includes speedy sophomore Willie Young at one end and tough senior Martel Brown at the other end. The linebackers are fairly sound while the secondary under Archer will now be asked to adjust and play zone. They looked good in spring practice.

Swing games for the Pack include those versus UCF, Clemson and Virginia. Winning all three of those contests will probably result in a 6- 6 record. If they can pull an upset against Boston College, the club will be bowl bound again.
