Coach: Rich Brooks (4th year at Kentucky)
Team Name: Wildcats
2005 Overall Record: 3-8
2005 SEC Conference Record 2-6
Returning Starters: 16
Poor defense and a slumping offense defined the Wildcats 2005 season. Despite efforts by the phenomenal Rafael Little, who led the team in receptions and rushing and also returned punts and kickoffs, the team could only muster 21.7 PPG, while giving up 34.1 PPG.
At QB, Andre Woodson and Curtis Pulley are both back. Together they threw 6 TDs and 9 INTs in 2005. Nationally, the club was ranked 101st in passing yardage per game. Both now have experience but who will start is unknown.
With its starting OL back, look for the Wildcats to focus on the running game, with backup RBs Tony Dixon and Terrell Bankhead seeing action when Little tires.
The team’s defense was decimated by injuries last season. Key players are back and others—on the line, backfield and secondary—with experience are ready to go. This was the worst “D” in the SEC. They should improve this year.
Kentucky scored three wins last season, two of those were in the SEC. They may win one more in conference this season (against Ole Miss) and out of conference UL Monroe, Texas State and Central Michigan are all beatable. Key games will be against the SEC’s Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Other conference teams need not worry about this developing club.
