The Yellow Jackets return the bulk of their offense, including TB Tashard Choice, who will start for the first time. Last season, he led the team with 6 rushing touchdowns. The junior looks to be dynamite in 2006.

At tight end, there’s depth as seniors George Cooper and Michael Mathews share those chores. Of late, double teams have hampered the talented WR Calvin Johnson. That leaves QB Reggie Ball to find another receiver—the one who’s open.

Ball is a good QB who has been prone to interception. Last season he threw 12 INTS and 11 TDs. He’s been successfully working on his accuracy and needs to follow through in 2006.

Most of the defensive front seven returns with the team showing strength at linebacker, tackle and end. LB Phillip Wheeler is an expert defender (4 sacks, 4 INTS). The big question mark concerning the “D” is the secondary with corner Kenny Scott being the lone returning starter. Last year, the team swiped 21 passes. That will be tough to repeat this season.

The Yellow Jackets will look for a few receivers to step up and QB Ball to be more consistent. On defense, the guys upfront will need to pressure quarterbacks, helping out the green secondary. A tenth straight bowl berth is not out of the question. Virginia Tech can go either way, while the Yellow Jackets could sting Miami for a win.
