Coach: Guy Morriss (4th year at Baylor)
Team Name: Bears
2005 Overall Record: 5-6
2005 Big 12 Conference Record 2-6
Returning Starters: 12
Here’s the plan for Baylor—throw the ball to the open guy. Senior Shawn Bell starts at QB. In 2005, he threw 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions while compiling 1.964 yards in the air. He’s not a flashy guy, but he’s a smart player, reliable leader and an accurate thrower.
Wide receivers and seniors Dominique Zeigler and Trent Shelton offer experience and ability at that position. At RB, Paul Mosely (180 carries, 657 yards, 7 TDs) will bull his way through lines and Brandon Whitaker will try to make the big play while carrying the ball.
The offensive line is anchored by senior center Yancy Boatner, who will have to hold together a relatively inexperienced left side.
The defense has lost seven key starters and the team doesn’t really have the personnel to replace them. At DE Marcus Foreman (58 tackles) will make important plays, while cornerbacks C.J. Wilson and Anthony Arline should be tough to beat. The linebackers, who are all new, must have a quick learning curve to succeed.
There are a lot of new starters on the offensive line and in the backfield. Also, the defense has just about been totally rebuilt. There will be plenty of adjusting and adapting for the Bears in 2006. The conference will have no mercy on the team, with Kansas State and Oklahoma State being the only possible Big 12 wins.
